It truly is tragic that in our community, there are 71,560 people in food-insecure households. That means their ability to acquire nutritious food is limited or uncertain. It is tragic that children go to bed hungry, that seniors do not know where their next meal is coming from, that parents need to go without eating to make sure their children have enough food to eat. Impacts like these are reason enough for us to do everything within our abilities to reduce food insecurity.
Alongside the mere existence of food insecurity are the serious consequences associated with it. There have been dozens of studies that show, in comparison to those in food-secure households, food-insecure individuals have substantially worse mental health, physical health, and educational outcomes.
Together, we have the power to change how hunger affects our community.
With your support, the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana partners with 60 partner agencies who provide grocery assistance and hot meals to children, families and seniors in our community. We also operate direct distribution programs like the BackPacks for Kids and Senior programs to help those most at risk for hunger. With all of these programs and partnerships, we are able to distribute 5.1 million pounds of food annually to people who are facing hunger in our community.
Can I count on your support today? With every $10 donated, you can provide 55 meals to those in need. Food to feed little hungry tummies, food to provide energy and strength, food to sustain our neighbors for another day. Your gift can change the way hunger affects our community.
