September is Hunger Action Month! This national initiative is designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of the fact that 48 million Americans are food insecure. In fact, right here in Northeast Louisiana over 69,000 people are facing hunger. In September, we’ll be having a series of events to spread the word about the hunger crisis, and dedicate ourselves to a solution. We challenge you all to spread awareness and join the movement to fight hunger in America by participating in some of the events and actions below.
Come enjoy a cool treat for a great cause! Visit any of the 4 Eskamoe’s locations on Sunday, September 8th between 2-4 pm, tell them you’re there to support the Food Bank, and they’ll donate a portion of your sale to help fight hunger in Northeast Louisiana.
September 12th – Go Orange for Hunger Action Day
We’re holding a special fundraiser on our Facebook page for Hunger Action Day. Click here to make a donation or share. Since Facebook doesn’t take processing fees, 100% of proceeds from the fundraiser will help the Food Bank provide more meals to our neighbors in need. Individuals can also start their own Facebook Food Bank Fundraiser by clicking here.
On Hunger Action Day, everyone is encouraged to wear orange to raise awareness for those struggling with hunger, and share photos on our Facebook page and Twitter (@fbnela) using #HungerActionMonth.
Saturday, September 14th 2 pm – 4 pm – Hunters for the Hungry Freezer Cleanout
Clean out your freezer before the upcoming hunting season and donate frozen game, fish, or anything from your freezer to the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana to help feed our neighbors in need.
The Food Bank will also accept drop-offs during regular business hours (8:00 am to 4:00 pm) the week before and the week after Sept. 14th.
Here’s how it works:
Bring any wrapped and labeled frozen wild game (no wild hogs) or fish to the NELA Food Bank (4600 Central Ave, Monroe, LA) to be distributed to the hungry in northeast Louisiana.
Donations must be 2 yrs old or less.
