We truly appreciate the support of all of our donors who help us feed the community. Since May is National Older Americans Month, we’d like to highlight one Louisiana organization that has been specifically supporting our Senior Program for many years. IBERIABANK gives annually to help the Food Bank provide monthly food boxes to local seniors who are in need. We asked them to share a little about their business and why it’s important to them to give:
Tell us a little bit about your organization:
IBERIABANK, headquartered in Lafayette, LA, with local banking offices in Monroe, West Monroe and Ruston, is the largest bank based in Louisiana. Founded in 1887, for over 130 years we have focused on growth and a commitment to the community. Today, we continue that dedication by meeting the needs of our clients through comprehensive financial services which include Retail, Commercial, Business Banking, Private Banking, Treasury Management, Wealth Management and Mortgage, with 329 combined locations, including 191 bank branch offices, across 12 states.
How long have you been donating to the Food Bank, and what made you choose to support the Senior Program?
IBERIABANK has supported the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana through an annual donation to their Senior Program since 2012. Louisiana has the highest rate of senior food insecurity in the entire country, according to a joint report from Feeding America and the National Foundation to End Senior Hunger. We chose to support the Food Bank’s Senior Program, upon recognizing that many seniors living on fixed incomes are often faced with the difficult decision of having to choose between buying food or other life sustaining necessities, such as medicines, rent or utilities. It is gratifying to know that our donations, combined with other community partnerships, impact over 1,400 area seniors struggling with hunger.
Is there anything you would say to others who may be considering a donation?
It is a privilege for IBERIABANK to give back and support charitable efforts that make a difference in the communities we serve. The Food Bank’s distribution of more than 5.1 million pounds of food through 60 partner agencies and their children and senior programs are vital services for our neighbors in need. No one should go hungry. We live and work in a community of givers with open hearts. Please join with us and generously donate to the Food Bank in support of their tireless work and vision of “A Hunger-free Northeast Louisiana”.
