Many of you may know that the Louisiana Legislature removed the sales tax exemption for Louisiana Food Banks. This results in Louisiana’s Food Banks paying sales tax on purchases that help us meet our mission and serve the most vulnerable citizens. These critical funds are now being diverted away from our mission of fighting hunger and costing Louisiana’s food banks roughly one million meals annually.
There is a compromise bill that could be voted on tomorrow (around 1 pm) so please call your elected officials today with your support. It is critical that the compromise bill (HB 38) pass from Ways and Means tomorrow.

3. Please convey the following message:
“I am a supporter of The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana. I am calling to ask you to restore the Louisiana Food Bank Sales tax exclusion before the end of this special session on June 23. Louisiana’s Food Banks and their partner agencies are already stretched thin to meet the growing need. We must restore the exclusion for Louisiana’s Food Banks.”
